$750 Million Cedar Rapids Data Center Proposed

Approximately six months following the $576 million Google data center announcement, the city of Cedar Rapids reported the potential for an even larger data center user. A $750 million data center has been proposed for Big Cedar Industrial Center along 76th Avenue SW.

The $750 million Cedar Rapids data center, planned by an unnamed company, would be the largest development project in the city’s history. The data center would involve the construction of two or more buildings on approximately 560 of the 1,391 acres Big Cedar Industrial Center encompasses.

With a total of 30, the state of Iowa is no stranger to data centers. Iowa’s affordable and ample supply of wind energy, stable grid, high density of telecommunications infrastructure and low construction costs have led to billions of dollars of investment from tech giants Google, Meta, Microsoft, among others.

The newly proposed $750 million data center and Google data center will be situated immediately west of Edgewood Logistics Park. With an existing 203,840 square foot existing warehouse building for lease, and up to 78 acres for sale, Edgewood Logistics Park is ripe for development and currently seeking data centers or complementary businesses.

“Edgewood Logistics Park is designed to support businesses looking for high-quality infrastructure in a rapidly developing area, ensuring they have the space and resources needed to thrive,” Principal and co-founder Dave Drown, SIOR, CCIM of GLD Commercial said.

The proposed $750 million Cedar Rapids data center represents a historic milestone for the city and highlights the area’s growing appeal to tech companies. This data center is situated near Edgewood Logistics Park at 3215 64th Ave. SW, offering ample space and leasing opportunities for complementary businesses. The new data center development promises to drive further economic growth and solidify Cedar Rapids’ status as a destination for data centers.
