Iconic former restaurant building

New ownership group breathes life into iconic former restaurant building

Cedar Rapids, IA — Sitting just shy of 8,000 square feet (SF), the prominent building at 1140 Blairs Ferry Road NE in Cedar Rapids has been home to several restaurant concepts over the years.

The building was originally constructed in 1993 and housed North Country Steakhouse, a cook-it-yourself concept for many years. It was most recently the Chrome Horse Saloon following a fire that forced them out of their previous location.

“As it is currently, this property is too large to sustain most of today’s restaurant/bar concepts,” Michael Gibbs, GLD Commercial property marketing agent said. “The average full-service restaurant generally requires 3,500 to 5,500 SF. This property is almost double the size today’s restauranteurs are looking for.”

The new owner, a local privately held investment group, is planning to subdivide the space into four units that can be leased singularly or any combination thereof. From 1,645 – 6,120 SF are currently listed on the market for lease. The south end of the building will feature an outdoor patio for additional seating and the north end will have a drive thru.

Situated on Blairs Ferry Road between C Avenue and Council Street, this iconic former restaurant building benefits from a significant daytime population and an abundance of retail activity. One of the city’s largest employers — Collins Aerospace, the new 86,000 SF Collins Community Credit Union headquarters, Super Target and other retailers are all within walking distance.
